Indoor or Outdoor
Indoor ranges generally provide shooting distances to about 25 yards. Some stretch out to 50 yards, but indoors there are a few that go beyond that. Some handgun indoor ranges are no more than 10 yards.
Most indoor shooting ranges are 60 or 75 feet between the firing line and the target line, or 20-25 yards, but the building facility is longer. Depending on equipment and other circumstances, a 75-foot range can surpass 100 feet.
A structural ceiling height of 10 or 12 feet from the finished floor to the underneath works well. Lower ceiling heights can be accommodated, but ballistic protection, lightning, and target retrieval systems cost more.
It can be one or two in private home ranges or 10+ lanes. Some range operators prefer an open-concept firing line with no lanes or dividers, making the range one large bay.
Industry standard firing points are 42- to 69 inches wide, but 36 inches is fine for most shooting activities.
One should expect at least two range entrance locations, preferably behind the principal fire lanes. Tactical ranges may need multiple doors or larger vehicle entries.

A traditional range where shooters and targets are stationary during fire.

This dynamic range allows shooters to engage targets from any point between them and the furthest shooting point.

Shooting ranges are designed for certain weapons. The kind of bullet traps, baffles, and deflectors should handle different calibres and speeds.
